Mobile car-shaped parking stands installed
Look out for temporary cycle parking stands giving 48 additional places in the city centre.
Each is made up of a rack of 6 Sheffield stands. An outer profile is in the shape of a car - illustrating the point that 12 bikes can be parked in place of one car.
The logic behind temporary stands it to trial locations. If successful, permanent stands will be installed. We are assured that they will be left in place long enough for cyclists to get to know they are there.
Initial locations are: Milsom Street, Barton Street, Queen Square and York Street.
The initiative comes from BANES Major Projects team. This photo shows a similar idea, but the BANES ones are all polished metal tubing.
